A second nameserver without the headache

Any serious hosting setup needs at least two nameservers on separate machines. LionDNS is a DNS node built on PowerDNS that acts as a secondary: it receives zones from the primary server via NOTIFY and AXFR and serves them authoritatively.

It works with cPanel/WHM as a DNS Cluster backend (like a DNSOnly server) with no plugin needed on the cPanel server, as well as with Plesk, BIND and PowerDNS. Each zone can have its own TSIG key.

Is a plugin needed on the cPanel server?

No. LionDNS is added to WHM’s DNS Cluster with a username and API token, just like a DNSOnly server.

Which operating systems does it install on?

Debian 12 and Ubuntu 24.04.

Can I connect it to LionPanel?

Yes. There is a ready preset for a read-only monitoring token and a connector in the LionPanel marketplace.
